Dickies pants are bull testicle tough. That's a fact. To prove it, we proposed a site for people to point their faces to and test that theory with a bunch of anvils, belt sanders, blow torches, and a steel-toed boot thingy with a bunch of other people in a real, live-action internet interactive experience buzzwords website. Proposal status: denied.

That plus pictures of our Excellent Makers wearing some real dope kicks. This stuff is the stuff that goes with that last batch of stuff you just watched in the can.

Nothing greases my burrito quite like short films about interesting people doing interesting things with a fancy camera pointing at them while they do those things. Which is exactly what we made for the New Balance lifestyle folks for our Excellent Maker series. I directed two of the six below and they're kinda longish, so you might want to bring the iPad into the crapper with you to watch.

New Balance Factory // Skowhegan, Maine

Osian Batyka Williams // Industrial Designer

When Norm Green moved my beloved Minnesota North Stars to Dallas in 1993, it felt like I'd lost a kidney in a back alley dice game. The soul of our frozen little state had been ripped out, tossed on a plane, and smothered in a southern brand of WTF that our simple Midwestern minds just couldn't comprehend. So while that wound still hasn't completely healed, my love for the game and watching grown men beat the hell out of each other on the pond helped me heal through the majesty of the written, posterized word.

Regrettably, the days of cranked-up Harley riders rapin' and pillagin' along great stretches of lawless interstate highways are gone with the proverbial, meth-scented wind. But just because the Harley-Davidson brand now lives mostly on the backs of accountants, business professionals, and various other boring white people, it doesn't mean we should give up on the spirit of the Almighty Hog. Hence the line, Protect Your Hog.

Thanks to client conflicts and a whiny new business guy ("Well what if we pitch big oil sometime?"), this was never made. The idea was - since the government wasn't doing anything about it - to let the internet employ some good, old fashioned vigilante justice on the company that just destroyed the Gulf of Mexico. A hand would've appeared and you'd use the arrow keys to bitchslap BP's then CEO,Tony Hayward, until he whimpered like a lost, beaten child. Is it fair to single this one dude out? I don't know. And I don't really care either.

The internet doesn't need another microsite that engages the user. What it does need, however, is another microsite that teaches the user the difference between Bill Paxton and Bill Pullman. Because let's face it, if you can't accurately identify these two pillars in the pantheon of Hollywood greats, you're a failure and should probably deport yourself to Guatemala or something.

Lennox, in case you were wondering, is on the front lines of said advancements. The proof, as they say, is in the expensively animated television commercials.

"Barbed and Dangerous"
For the Mad Rollin' Dolls in Madison, we printed 150 posters on pink French paper, die cut the wheel and lace holes, and tied metallic silver string-wire through the grommets. This was a giant pain in the ass.

"Rinkburn Blowout"
For the North Star Rollergirls, we screenprinted on plastic mesh, temporary tattooed their logo, die-cut the pattern, and blowtorched the skate for a limited run of 250 posters. And like idiots, we did the blow-torching in a garage while drinking High Life. Not the smartest approach.
